Mediterranean in La Quinta

After a few days of relaxation in Palm Springs..well actually La Quinta, we decided to go out for a nice dinner at a new mediterranean restaurant called Figue.  Even simply walking into the restaurant I was in awe, it was fresh and artistic.  Blue lights shined on the glass walls, and some tree stumps and abstract art hung from the walls and ceiling.  We started off having water, and my dad got a martini.
After we had ordered our drinks we decided to order an appetizer of warm olives.  With the addition of the warm olives (Kalamatas) we were also welcomed with bread with a citrus dipping sauce, an oil dipping sauce and some cheese.  I didn't have the cheese, but the presentation was nice, and the olives and sauces were good.
Next we got to order our main dishes.  I ordered the "Seven Treasures Vegetarian Couscous".  It was really yummy, and consisted of winter veggies, couscous, moroccan green charmoula and citrus oil.  My dad had the Ahi Tuna and my mom had the halibut.  We also got sides of eggplant, with greek yogurt sauce and pomegranates, and Moroccan cauliflower smothered in a minty sauce.

The food was wonderful...although my couscous was a little cold... We really enjoyed the meal but our only complaint was that the food came a little too quick.  It seemed that the appetizer came out the exact same time as the main dishes and sides.  Other than that we were all very happy with the food, and plan on retuning next time we make a trip to Palm Springs.

Sally Loo's and Bliss

Blueberry Chia Hemp
As Finals week came to an end and I got ready to go to Palm Springs for the week, (and see tyler :)) Olivia and I made yet another trip to the Bliss Cafe.  Since I had tried a lot of their food, I decided on a smoothie this time.   I ended up getting the Blueberry Chia Hemp Smoothie (Coconut milk, chia seeds, blueberry, banana, hemp protein, and dates).  It was delicious.  Then, before catching the amtrak to Santa Barbara for my spring break, I stopped by Sally Loos, a really cute cafe perfectly placed right next to the Amtrak station.  I ended up getting the Acai Bowl.  All my friends have been ranting and raving about it so I had to get it...and was not disappointed!

Vegan hotspot in SLO

Hi everyone, this is Hannah speaking (:  Finals week is approaching fast for me (next week!) so my friends and I decided to take a little break to go out for dinner...in celebration of surviving dead week.  Being a vegan, there usually aren't very many restaurants that cater to my special diet, but San Luis Obispo has one 100% vegan restaurant that I LOVE.  Its called the Bliss Cafe and it's located on Higuera Street in downtown SLO.  The first time that I came across this place was with Tyler.  We bought an amazing Chai tea drink and some vegan cookies.  Then last week I made a return trip with my friends Sarah and Olivia.  The menu is vast ranging from starters, to kids food, burritos, smoothies, bowls, juices, plates and wraps.  Olivia and I both got the "Bhakti Bowl" which is a bowl of rice with the daily curry vegetables and chutney.  The food was exquisite...although the chutney was a little to spicy.  Sarah on the other hand got one of Blisses "live" pies.  She got a peanut butter cup slice with coconut whipped cream topping.  It was so rich and delicious.

The food was so good that yesterday we made a return journey.  This time I decided that I was going to get a slice of pie (in honor of pi day 3/14).  I had a slice of carrot pie/carrot cake.  It was delicious!  Not to sweet but very filling.  Olivia got the veggie protein sandwich and Maddie got baked samosas.  Olivia also got some kombucha which was on tap! I tried it and it was way better than the stuff that you can find in the bottles.  This place is a hole in the wall restaurant, but I will definitely be returning multiple times in my time here in San Luis Obispo.  The only problem was that the food was fairly expensive.  But it was worth the money!
Happy Pi Day!
